Shadow Reflections on Ethics

”Not everything harmful is wrong. Not everything kind is harmless.”

Ethics are not static. They evolve with awareness.

And sometimes, living in alignment with your deepest truth will disrupt the comfort of others—or yourself.

This shadow reflection invites you to sit with uncomfortable questions. There are no clear answers—only insight. And with insight comes power.

Reflection 1: When Has “Harm None” Been Used Against Witches?

• Has anyone ever told you that you shouldn’t speak up, protect yourself, or express anger—because that would be “harmful” or “not spiritual”?
• Have you witnessed the Rede used as a tool to shame, silence, or disempower witches who set boundaries or speak their truth?
• Can “harm none” sometimes be misused to protect abusers or maintain unhealthy dynamics?

Journal Prompt: When have I been taught that being a “good witch” means being passive or self-sacrificing? Do I still carry that belief?

Reflection 2: Can “Harm” Include Discomfort That Leads to Growth?

• Think of times when something felt hard but was ultimately healing.
• Can setting a boundary, ending a relationship, or speaking a truth feel harmful in the short term—but lead to long-term alignment?
• Is it possible that growth often requires friction, discomfort, or rupture?

Journal Prompt: Have I ever avoided necessary change because I didn’t want to cause discomfort—for myself or others?

Reflection 3: Is Not Acting Ever a Form of Harm?

• Have you ever stayed silent when your voice was needed?
• Avoided a spell because you were afraid of making a mistake—even when someone or something was being harmed?
• Let injustice pass unchallenged because “Wiccans don’t interfere”?

Sometimes, inaction can be just as impactful as action. Choosing not to act is still a choice—with its own consequences.
