Practical Exercises
Turning Ethics into Experience
Understanding ethics on a mental level is important—but embodying them is where transformation happens. These practical exercises will help you apply the Wiccan Rede, the Rule of Three, and your personal values to real-life situations, magical decisions, and your daily rhythm.
1. Ethics Reflection: Applying the Rede and Rule of Three
Think of a recent decision, conflict, or magical intention you’ve had—even something small.
Answer the following questions:
- What was my original intent?
- What energy did I send out (words, thoughts, emotions)?
- Who or what might have been affected by this?
- How did that energy come back to me (immediately or later)?
- How would I approach it differently next time, if at all?
This is not a guilt exercise—it’s an awareness ritual.
2. Spell Ethics Scenario Quiz
Create a simple quiz using real-life magical dilemmas. Here are a few sample scenarios:
Scenario A: You want to cast a spell to help your friend land a job, but it would mean someone else doesn’t get it.
What are the ethical considerations? What might be a better alternative?
Scenario B: You’ve just ended a painful relationship. You’re tempted to do a binding spell to keep your ex away.
Is this ethical? If so, how would you do it with integrity?
Scenario C: You’re overwhelmed and want to cast a spell to attract support—but feel guilty asking the universe for help.
What does the Rede say? How can you frame the spell from self-love?
Write or reflect on their answers. Then compare with thoughtful alternatives and why they are (or aren’t) aligned with Wiccan ethics.
3. Create Your Own “Witch’s Code”
(Bonus printable: template included in the Printables)
Reflect on what matters most to you as a spiritual practitioner.
- What values guide your magic?
- What behaviors do you want to uphold in both ritual and daily life?
- How do you define “harm”?
- How will you respond when you make a mistake?
Write 5–10 statements to form your personal Witch’s Code—something you can return to throughout the year as your practice deepens.
4. Energetic Consent Practice
This simple practice helps you build intuitive discernment around energetic boundaries.
- Think of someone you feel close to.
- Quiet your mind. Imagine gently reaching out toward their energy.
- Ask internally: “Am I being invited in?”
- Notice how your body responds—do you feel openness, resistance, neutrality?
Repeat with someone you’re in conflict with—or someone you’ve considered casting for. Write down your insights.
Energetic consent begins with presence. It teaches us to listen, not assume.
5. Aura Check & Energy Field Awareness
Sit in meditation and visualize your own energy field. Ask:
- Where do I feel porous or exposed?
- Where am I leaking energy?
- Where do I feel strong and clear?
Then, use a grounding technique (breath, visualization, crystals, or salt) to seal and protect your field.
Ask yourself: What energy am I allowing in? What am I unconsciously sending out?
Why This Matters
You don’t become an ethical witch by memorizing rules.
You become one by living your values in your body, your breath, your craft, and your everyday choices.
These exercises will sharpen your discernment, deepen your intuition, and strengthen your spiritual backbone.
Ethics are not limitations. They are the foundation of your power.
