This lesson invites you into ethical inquiry by exploring magical dilemmas—realistic, messy, and thought-provoking situations where the “right” path isn’t always clear.

Use these case studies for solo journaling or future group discussion. There are no perfect answers—only reflections that deepen your clarity and sharpen your intuition.

Case Study 1: The Love Triangle

Your friend is heartbroken over someone they’re in love with.

You’ve noticed that person isn’t truly interested—or might even be leading your friend on.

Your friend asks you to do a “sweetening spell” to attract that person to them.

You know this could work—but it doesn’t feel right to you.

Consider:

• What does the Wiccan Rede say here?
• Are you honoring free will or interfering with it?
• Could a general love or healing spell be more ethical?
• Is it your role to cast this, or to help your friend reflect more deeply?

Case Study 2: The Workplace Spell

You’re applying for a job you really want. You know another candidate is highly qualified—maybe even more than you.

You feel tempted to cast a spell that increases your chances… even if it unintentionally reduces theirs.

Consider:

• Is this spell an act of empowerment or competition?
• Could you frame the intention as “the job that is aligned with my highest good” instead?
• How might the Rule of Three apply here?

Case Study 3: A Justified Binding?

Someone in your community has been spreading false rumors about you.

It’s damaging your reputation and making others wary of you.

You’re feeling hurt, furious, and disempowered.

You want to bind their tongue so they stop—but you’re unsure if this crosses a line.

Consider:

• What is your intent: control or protection?
• What would a “binding without harm” spell look like here?
• Is there a way to shift the energy without forcing change?

Case Study 4: The Energy Vampire

A loved one is constantly reaching out to you for support—but it feels draining.

You’ve done energy work for them before, but they never seem to grow.

You’re feeling pulled to do a “cutting cord” spell—but guilty about it.

They haven’t technically done anything “wrong,” and you care deeply about them.

Consider:

• Is this boundary-setting or avoidance?
• What would energetic consent look like here?
• What spell (or conversation) would honor both your care and your sovereignty?

Reflection Prompts

For each case study, journal:

• What part of me feels pulled toward action?
• What part of me hesitates?
• What would the Rede and Rule of Three advise?
• What would my own ethical code say?
• If I did nothing, what would likely happen?
• If I acted, what could shift—for better or worse?

These questions don’t make things easier. They make you wiser.

The deeper you explore these dilemmas, the more skilled and sacred your magic becomes.
